Assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Two, serving with the 1st Marine Logistics Group; killed Aug. 22, 2006, when his Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was struck by an improvised explosive device while responding to a previous strike along Supply Route Uranium, Iraq.
Assigned to a West Coast-based SEAL Team; died Sept. 21, 2010 in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash during combat operations in the Zabul province, Afghanistan. Adams, descended from two presidents, became the first Navy officer to die in the war when his Royal Navy Sea King helicopter collided with another chopper shortly after takeoff. He was assigned as an exchange officer with the Royal Navy's 849 Squadron since October 2002. Died on 3-22-03.
Assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; died June 29, 2008 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained when his vehicle rolled into a canal. Also killed were Master Sgt. Shawn E. Simmons and Sgt. James M. Treber.
Montrond died north of Deh Rawod, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. He was assigned to the Group Support Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on February 13, 2006.
