Spann was killed during a deadly four-day prison riot near Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Died on November 25, 2001. Spann was assigned to the CIA.
On Saturday evening, April 10, 2004, at about 9:30, Officers Isaac Espinoza and Barry Parker were working plain clothes undercover in San Francisco’s Bayview District. The officers spoke to a suspicious man standing at the corner of Newcomb Avenue and Newhall Street when the man suddenly fired an assault weapon at the officers. Officer Espinoza, 29, died later that evening from his injuries.

Died July 15, 2011 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom 28, of Colville, Wash.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; died July 15 at Camp Bastion Hospital, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with rocket-propelled grenade fire in Helmand province.
